Dr.S.Shankar M.E., Ph.D (IIT Madras)

Dr. S. Shankar, M.E., Ph.D. (IIT Madras) is a distinguished academic leader, researcher, and institutional advisor with over two decades of experience in teaching, industrial R&D, funded research, accreditation, and higher education quality assurance. He completed his B.E. (Mechanical Engineering, 2001) and M.E. (Engineering Design, 2002) from Bharathiar University, securing University Rank I, and earned his full-time Ph.D. in Machine Design (2008) from IIT Madras. He subsequently worked as Senior Engineer – R&D at CONVERTEAM EDC Pvt. Ltd., Chennai/USA for 2.5 years, gaining strong industrial research exposure. Dr. Shankar joined Kongu Engineering College in 2010 and served as Professor of Mechatronics Engineering, Head – R&D Cell (2019–2023), and Head – Mechatronics Engineering (2023–2024). Under his leadership, Scopus publications increased from 200 to 1,040 per year, SCI publications from 160 to 400 per year, and R&D project funding from ₹1 crore to ₹2.5 crore per year. He also led the department to secure six years of NBA accreditation under Tier-I. He has published 200+ Scopus/SCI journal papers with over 6,300 citations, served as Principal Investigator for 11 funded projects worth ₹1.15 crore, and holds one granted and one published patent. He has guided 7 Ph.D. scholars, 26 PG students, and 40 UG batches. His recognitions include the AICTE Career Award for Young Teachers, Young Engineer Award (IEI), and listing in the Top 2% Scientists in the World (Stanford–Elsevier, 2022–2025). In June 2025, he founded ProMind Research Academy, a research transformation platform delivering ethical, outcome-driven mentoring. ProMind has conducted 50+ FDPs and 100+ expert sessions, benefiting 6,000+ faculty and supporting institutions across multiple states in NBA, NAAC, NIRF, and research excellence. He continues to bridge the gap between academic intent and measurable research output, enabling institutions to build a self-sustaining, ethical, and impact-driven research culture aligned with national and global standards.
